How to convert EML to PDF

Choose or drop an .eml file. The converter reads the message in your browser and builds a PDF that starts with the subject and a header table (From, To, Cc, Date and the attachments), followed by the message. Text in the PDF can be selected and searched, and links stay clickable.

What the PDF keeps

Paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text, lists, quoted replies, links, simple tables and images sent inside the email are kept. Newsletter layouts are simplified to one column, and colors and custom fonts are not copied. When a message has both a formatted and a plain-text version, you can choose which one to use. Images hosted on the internet are not downloaded, so the sender can’t tell that you opened the message; their descriptions are shown instead.

Attachments

Attachments are listed in the header with their sizes. With Put inside the PDF, the files are also saved inside the PDF, where readers such as Adobe Acrobat Reader and Firefox show them in an attachments panel. Choose List names only for a smaller PDF that only names them.

Supported files and limits

This tool reads .eml files up to 50 MB, the format saved by Gmail, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and Outlook on the web, and Apple Mail’s .emlx files. Outlook .msg files are not supported. Latin, Greek and Cyrillic text is supported. Messages mostly in other scripts, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew or Hindi, can’t be converted yet, and emoji are left out. For encrypted messages, only the headers can be shown.

Frequently asked questions

Is my email uploaded? No. The file is read and converted on your device. The page downloads a font from this site to build the PDF, but your message never leaves the browser.

How do I get an .eml file? In Gmail, open the message, open the More menu and choose Download message. In Thunderbird, choose File, then Save As. In Apple Mail, choose File, then Save As, with the Raw Message Source format.

Can I open the attachments from the PDF? Yes, when they are saved inside it. Open the attachments panel in your PDF reader, for example Adobe Acrobat Reader or Firefox. Some simpler viewers don’t show PDF attachments.
