WebP to GIF

Convert animated WebP to GIF. Every frame and its timing is kept, so stickers and memes play the same way in apps that don’t support WebP. Still images work too. The conversion runs in this browser.

How to convert WebP to GIF

Drop .webp files or a .zip of them onto the converter, or choose them from your device, then press Convert to GIF. Each animated WebP becomes an animated GIF with the same frames, frame durations and loop setting, and each still WebP becomes a still GIF.

Colors and transparency

A GIF can show at most 256 colors in each frame, so the converter picks the best 256 colors for every frame separately. Flat graphics and stickers look the same; photos and smooth gradients can show banding. For those, convert WebP to PNG instead. GIF transparency is either on or off, so soft, semi-transparent edges become hard edges.

Browser support

Reading every frame of an animated WebP needs the ImageDecoder feature, found in browsers such as Chrome and Edge. In a browser without it, an animated WebP becomes a still GIF of its first frame, and the converter tells you. Very long or very large animations are refused rather than left to slow your device down. For PNG, JPG and SVG in one place, use the WebP converter.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my GIF bigger than the WebP? WebP compresses animation far more efficiently than GIF, a format from 1987. A GIF several times the size of the WebP is normal.

Can I convert many WebP files to GIF at once? Yes. Choose up to 200 images, or a ZIP file that contains them, and download the GIF files in one ZIP.

Are my images uploaded? No. Your browser reads and converts the images on your device, and nothing is sent to a server, so the converter is also safe to use for private photos and screenshots.
